Move to California .. or not? (Earthquake, housing prices, etc)?

CA has some of the most expensive cost of living, particularly home prices and rent in certain areas. Especially for someone whose been living in Texas, you should realize it's like day and night. There is obviously a major concern of several factors. I would honestly recommend settling somewhere else as an alternative to both. I've lived in both states you are talking about and in the end, neither seems right.
