Be more proactive and look for things to do. I'm a retail manager, and I can't tell you how frustrating it is when I see employees standing around talking when there is plenty to do. If you feel like you have nothing to do, go to your manager and tell them that you need some direction on what to do. They will appreciate your intiative and will most likely give you something to work on. Standing around makes you look lazy and careless.
